Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries are scattered on a browned parchment paper that has been placed on a silver sheet pan.

The perfect oven baked sweet potato fries are here!

I have loved Sweet Potato Fries for as long as I can remember, I mean, what’s not to love?

My Granny introduced me to these homemade fries years ago and I fell in love with the sweet and salty combo.

However, as many times as I’ve made them at home, I never could attain the perfect crispiness until I tried this method.

I’ve been making this easy side dish for some time now and I can guarantee if you’ll follow this recipe, you’ll get the perfect fries.

How to make the best Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Preheat your oven at 450F.

First off you’ll need 3 large sweet potatoes that have been peeled.

Cut the sweet potatoes in to steak-fry like wedges – not too large and thick, but not think matchsticks either.

Now, grab some parchment paper and crumble it in your hand. Crumbling the parchment paper will give it some “grip” to stay on the sheet pan.

Unfold the parchment paper and spread it out into your sheet pan, then place the fries on the pan.

Drizzle the fries evenly with extra virgin olive oil, then season liberally with freshly ground pink Himalayan salt and fresh cracked black pepper.

A white parchment paper covers a sheet pan. Homemade cut but uncooked sweet potato fry wedges are on the parchment paper and are drizzled in olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Healthy Baked Sweet Potato Fries are an easy and delicious side

Bake the sweet potato fries at 450F for 14 minutes before removing to flip over.

Place the fries back into the oven to cook for an additional 4-5 minutes before removing to serve.

Your fries should have little darkened spots of flavor all over and should be nice and crispy.

The best part about this recipe? You don’t have to soak these fries in water before baking. They’re just that fast and easy!

Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes peeled
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • freshly ground pink Himalayan salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450F.

  2. Measure parchment paper to fit a large 9 x 13 sheet pan and crumble the paper up in a ball before spreading it out over the pan. (Crumbling it up first will help it to stay on the pan better and provide it with some "grip".)

  3. Peel the sweet potatoes using a potato peeler and cut off each end and discard.

  4. If the sweet potatoes are very long, cut them in half, then cut the halves into steak fry sized wedges, about 1/2 inch thick.

  5. Place the wedges on the sheet pan and scatter them out so that they're not stacked or overlapping the others.

  6. Drizzle all of the wedges with olive oil, then cover them lightly in freshly ground salt and black pepper.

  7. Place the fries in the oven and cook for 14 minutes at 450F before removing, flipping, and baking them an additional 4-5 minutes.

  8. Remove from oven and allow to cool before enjoying.

I love making baked sweet potato fries but I don’t often get them crispy enough. We’ll have to try this. Pinned.
